The Albany Academies Middle School students (grades 5-8) are at the center of their academic experience, constantly expanding their knowledge, skills and competence. In our supportive and inspiring Middle Schools, students are valued for their unique qualities and encouraged to do their best -- by their teachers, their advisors and peers.
The Academies recognize that perhaps at no other time are single-gender classrooms more valuable than during the middle school years. Without the distractions of the opposite gender in the classroom, Academies students learn to trust in themselves and in their abilities.
Girls and boys have the opportunity to meet and begin to get to know one another at dances, field days, games and cultural events throughout the year. Some highlights are the Halloween Dance, a performance by the Capital Repertory Theater Company and the skating party. Each year, the student councils from both schools work together to plan most of these activities.
A variety of athletic opportunities and unique offerings in visual and performing arts are key components of our Middle Schools. A range of day and overnight field trips and meaningful community service enrich the Middle School experience. Academies Middle School students develop the confidence to speak their minds, take intellectual risks and decide for themselves who they are.
