Join us for the fall production of William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" today, November 13 & tomorrow, November 14 beginning at 7 p.m. each evening in Caird Chapel, AA. We still have room on both nights so please come and enjoy a great performance!

The production will be staged in the round and accompanied by an original sound score performed live.

Admission is free for both performances and refreshments will be served in The Buttery prior to the start of the play. Many thanks to the AAPA for providing the refreshments and volunteering as greeters.

For more information, contact Arts Chair Greg Cummings at (518) 429-2300 or cummingsg@albanyacademies.org.

Open House welcomes prospective families

Our Fall Open House was held on November 8 on both the AAG & AA campuses to welcome a number of prospective families looking to learn more about the Academies. More than 45 families joined us to find out about our academic, arts and athletic curriculum as well as what makes the Academies such a special place.

Many thanks to our faculty, parent and student ambassadors for their dedicated efforts to ensure the success of this event. We greatly appreciate everyone's support.

Our next Open Houses will be held on January 26 (Preschool, Pre-K & Kindergarten) and January 27 (All school). Please help spread the word!

Nine members of the Model United Nations Club attended an Historic Model UN conference this past Tuesday at the Rensselaerville Institute.

Going on the notion that the United Nations had existed before World War II, the students created and debated resolutions addressing many of the issues that led to World War II. The conference pursued peaceful means of resolving conflicts due to German and Japanese aggression prior to World War II.

The students had a great time interacting with other Model UN members from different schools in the region.

Mr. Young's Anatomy classes have been studying the human nervous system recently. This week, the students dissected sheep brains in order to examine the external and internal anatomy of a mammalian brain.

Since no student was willing to volunteer his or her own brain, the group chose to use a sheep brain instead!

Pictured (left to right) are Katherine Bielewa '17 & Samantha Macaffer '17; Emily Ashton '17 & Madeline Cavallino '17; and Angelia Scallero '17 & Campbell Whyte '17.

The 5th grade girls have been using the laptop carts this week to research for their Five Rivers Project.

Each girl was assigned a river to research along with various topics they needed to find. The students used reference books from the AAG Library and were instructed how to use the AAG online database.

The girls will present their projects to parents at the end of November.

Celebrating Henry Hudson

The 7th grade boys are currently working on an interdisciplinary project based on the 400th anniversary of the Henry Hudson expedition and discovery.

History students will be creating PowerPoint presentations while English and Science students are engaging in skits and posters. The project was designed to give the students an opportunity to develop research skills, computer skills and brainstorming. Various topics were selected that will lead to a well-rounded view of Hudson and the river that he explored.

A special Middle School assembly will be held on Thursday, November 19 from 9-11 a.m. in Caird Chapel to view the presentations.

A shocking discovery

The 8th grade boys conducted presentations on aspects of electromagnetic waves on Thursday.

Students learned about learned about various electromagnetic inventions that are used to assist people such as microwaves, cell phones, night goggles, x-rays and more.

Native American presentation

During the month of November, the Pre-K girls create a Native American village in their dramatic play area with a tee-pee, drums and Native American outfits.

This year, the girls built the tee-pee using branches and a sheet that were donated by Pre-K parents.

The project is part of a cultural awareness lesson that teaches the girls about different nationalities.

Pictured are the Pre-K girls in front of their Native American village.

A battle for supremacy

image

The 5th & 6th grade Superbowl was a tremendous battle of talent and determination on November 6 as the boys battled each for grade supremacy.

Although the temperature for the morning was cold and bitter, the action on the field heated up quickly as both teams were able to score four touchdowns.

Both teams and everyone enjoyed the festivities -- especially the hot chocolate and donuts that were offered after the game.
