The focus in the Middle School at The Albany Academy is to prepare young men to become active leaders of tomorrow, capable of handling any challenge put before them. We offer opportunities for leadership, interdisciplinary study, preparation for the Upper School and a nurturing environment where curiosity is encouraged. Academics, athletics, and the arts are staples of an Academy education.

Middle School students at The Albany Academy are part of a community where they gradually take on more responsibility and develop into confident young men. By learning in a challenging single-gender environment, boys are able to develop a true sense of self-worth and self-confidence. They are encouraged to take academic and learning risks in terms of both academics and leadership within a supportive community. Students also begin to take on leadership roles within the greater local community by planning and carrying out community service projects. Students learn in a comfortable place, have the chance to make mistakes, and learn and grow personally and academically.

Differentiated, interdisciplinary, and engaging instruction provide opportunities for different types of learners to be successful in the classroom. Through project-based learning students are actively involved in creating, designing, and solving problems. Students take on critical teaching and learning roles while demonstrating proficiency in a variety of subjects. The qualities and skills necessary for success in the 21st century are changing – collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills are at the center of learning in the Middle School programs. Our students learn the necessary skills and application to be successful in the classroom and in life.

The Middle School is an eventful and vital piece of our Academies community. Our campus structure allows students of all grade levels (K – 12) to work together for community service, leadership, and authentic learning experiences for students of all grade levels. We have a true sense of family and community – please schedule a visit and experience in person all we have to offer!
