Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of The Albany Academies and includes parents, alumnae, alumni, community and business leaders. It is the board's responsibility to ensure that the mission is relevant and vital to the community it serves and to monitor the success of the schools in fulfilling their mission.   • Jenny Amstutz P’19, ’21

    Jenny Amstutz P’19, ’21 is the founder of J.A. Strategies, a provider of organizational, board and staff development consulting and training for nonprofit organizations, universities, government and businesses. She also serves as the Interim Executive Director of the Albany Symphony Orchestra and has served on the boards of many area nonprofit organizations.

    Jenny is the proud parent of two sons at The Albany Academy, Ryan ’19 and Daniel ’21, and served as the President of the Albany Academies Parents Association for two years.
  • Carl Becker '04

    Carl G. Becker joined the Windsor Companies in 2012. He is a graduate of The Albany Academy, Fordham University and Albany Law School. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York, is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and ICSC.  He is currently a member of the Capital Bank & Trust Advisory Board, serves as a Board Member for the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and is a Trustee of The Albany Academies where he is a member of the Finance and Building and Grounds Committees.
  • William J. Belleville, Jr. '89

    Bill Belleville is a Managing Director at Barclays Wealth in New York City. He works with wealthy family groups and foundations advising them on estate planning, asset allocation, and investments. Prior to Barclays, he spent ten years at Credit Suisse Private Banking after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania where he received an MBA from the Wharton School and an MA in International Studies from the School of Arts and Sciences. Before graduate school, he spent four years working in derivatives trading at Merrill Lynch, Cantor Fitzgerald, and First Continental Trading. Mr. Belleville was born and raised in Albany and attended The Albany Academy from 5th grade through graduation. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from Cornell University and holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
  • M. Christian Bender '78 P'15, '20

     Chris Bender is the Senior Managing Director Charter School Advisors. He also is a member of the boards of trustees of the New York Charter Schools Association, Union Graduate College, and chairs several charter school boards in Albany. Mr. Bender holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Columbia University Teachers College, a Bachelor's Degree from Rollins College, and is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.
  • Peter Campito, P.E. '78 P'15

    Peter Campito, P.E. has served as President and Managing Partner of Latham-based Campito Companies since 1997. He is responsible for general management associated with mechanical construction and engineering activities for commercial, institutional and industrial projects. Mr. Campito is both a Licensed and Registered Professional Engineer with the State of New York and a Licensed Master Plumber with the City of Albany.
  • Nancy Carey Cassidy P'13, '15

    Nancy Carey Cassidy, as Chief Operating Officer of the Picotte Companies, is responsible for strategic planning and operational oversight. She has been with the company for over 30 years and was formerly Director of Development, responsible for all aspects of real estate development, land acquisition, site and building design, municipal approvals, construction and leasing. Ms. Cassidy was formerly Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Albany Medical CenterShe also served as the President of The Albany Academies Parents Association. Ms. Cassidy holds a Bachelor's Degree from the College of New Rochelle and an M.B.A. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
  • Eileen M. Considine P'08

    Eileen M. Considine is a Partner in the national Health Practices Group of the law firm of Drinker Biddle. She represents major academic medical institutions and faculty practice plans, as well as integrated delivery systems and managed care organizations in connection with managed care strategy, negotiations and regulatory matters.
  • Richard Flaherty P'15, '21

    Rich is President and CEO of Cove Risk Services, LLC, a company that provides workers’ compensation coverage to businesses throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Mr. Flaherty served on the Board of the Business Council of New York State, Inc. from 2005-2010, and was the President of the Group Self Insurance
    Association of New York from 2000-2008.

  • John C. Hayes '87 P '16 '18

    John is a Vice President for the M.M. Hayes in Albany, New York, a company that provides workforce management systems to organizations throughout the U.S. with a focus on healthcare. Mr. Hayes works alongside his brothers, Michael '83 and David '84. He is a member of the board of trustees of Albany Catholic Charities and the St. Francis Xavier Haitian Orphanage. John attended The Albany Academy from 6th grade through graduation. After a post-graduate year at Worcester Academy, Mr. Hayes earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College in 1992.
  • James Hens P ’22, ’23

    James Hens is the former owner and CEO of Spinal Dimensions, Inc., an exclusive distributorship for DePuy Synthes Spine, a Johnson & Johnson company, that employs over 85 people and a territory that includes most of the state of Florida as well as New York and Connecticut. Mr. Hens is also the owner of Mill View Assisted Living located in Latham, an organization that houses approximately 50 residents at any given time providing individualized care to the elderly population that are still thriving but need some extra help. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Business Administration, Finance and Marketing from Southern New Hampshire University.
  • Eric Lewis, Ph.D '83, P'17

    Eric Lewis, Ph.D. currently serves as a Professor at Siena College and a Visiting Professor at Cornell University. His professional affiliations include the American Accounting Association, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, British Accounting Association, Institute of Management Accountants and Multinational Finance Association. Dr. Lewis holds a Doctorate Degree in Accounting from Union Graduate College, a Master's Degree in Accounting from Union College and a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Siena College.
  • Leslie Morgan Marvin '61

    Leslie Morgan Marvin recently retired as a Managing Director for the Latin American Division of JPMorgan Private Bank in New York City, where she had worked for the past 18 years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from Wellesley College, a Master's Degree in Philosophy from Syracuse University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University's School of Business. Ms. Marvin also served on the staff of New York State Governor Nelson Rockefeller in his final term as Governor.
  • Dr. Hyacinth Mason, Ph.D P'19

    Dr. Hyacinth Mason serves as the Assistant Dean for Student Support and Inclusion at Albany Medical College.  She has a Ph.D in Prevention Medicine from University of Southern California, where she also completed her NCI Post Doctoral Fellowship. Dr. Mason is a certified Health Education Specialist and is involved with organizations such as Delmar Track and Field, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, the Albany Academies Parents Association, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and The Links Incorporated. 
  • George C. McNamee '64, P'12, '16

    George C. McNamee is a private investor. In addition, he is Chairman of fuel cell developer Plug Power Inc. and Lead Director of robot designer and manufacturer iRobot Corporation. McNamee is also a Director of several private companies, including Autotask Corporation, CORESense Inc., and StreetEasy Inc. and is Chairman of Amberwave Inc. He had served as Chairman of First Albany Companies Inc. since its inception in 2002, and as a Managing Director of FA Tech Ventures from 2000 to 2011. Mr. McNamee has also been a director of Home Shopping Network, Meta Group, the NYSE Inc and Mapinfo Inc./Pitney Bowes. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Yale University.
  • Cornelius Murray '62, P'99, '05, '06

    Cornelius Murray ’62 previously served as the President of the Board of Trustees of The Albany Academy from 2004 to 2008. While a parent at The Albany Academy, he also served as President of The Albany Academy Alumni Association. Presently, Mr. Murray is a senior partner with O’Connell & Aronowitz in the Health Law practice and supervising partner of their Appellate Law, Constitutional Law, and Indian Gaming practices. He has represented many clients in the health care industry and is currently General Counsel for the New York State Health Facilities Association where he focuses on issues involving complex Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues, regulatory compliance and certificates of need. In addition, he has lectured widely on legal matters affecting the health care industry and on administrative law. He has served as Chair of the Administrative Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association and as Chair of the Legal Task Force of the American Health Care Association. A Fellow of the NYS Bar Foundation, Mr. Murray is a past president of the Albany County Bar Association and is currently a member of the Albany County, New York State, and American Bar Associations, the New York State Bar Foundation, as well as the American Health Lawyers Association. He is listed in the publication "The Best Lawyers in America."

    Mr. Murray is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and a cum laude graduate of Harvard University. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court; U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals; all U.S. District Courts in New York State, and all New York State Courts.
  • Stewart C. Myers '58

    Stewart C. Myers is the Robert C. Merton (1970) Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is past President of the American Finance Association and elected Fellow of the Financial Management Association. He is co-author of the classic textbook, Principles of Corporate Finance, now in its 11th edition. His research is primarily concerned with the valuation of real and financial assets, corporate financial policy and financial aspects of government regulation of business. He is the author of influential research papers on many topics, including adjusted present value (APV), rate of return regulation, pricing and capital allocation in insurance, real options, and moral hazard and information issues in capital structure decisions. Dr. Myers is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Principal of The Brattle Group, Inc. and a former Director of Entergy Corporation.
  • Monica Kasselman Oberting '91

    Monica Kasselman Oberting has served as an Administrative Law Judge for the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation since 2001. Additionally, Mrs. Oberting serves as a Law Guardian for the NYS Appellate Division, Third Department. Prior to that, she served as In-House Counsel and was a corporate litigation attorney involving contract and bidding negotiations for Kasselman Electronic Co. Inc. and of-Counsel conducting insurance defense litigation for O'Connor, O'Connor, Bresee & First. Mrs. Oberting has a J.D. from Albany Law School, Union University and a Bachelor's Degree from Tulane University. She is a board member of numerous community organizations, including St. Peter's Hospital Foundation; Domestic Abuse Consultant for Legal Aid Society; Albany County Bar Association; New York State Bar Association; and Albany County Women’s Bar Association.
  • Brad Rosenstein '79

    Brad Rosenstein currently serves as President & CEO of Jack's Oyster House Inc. in downtown Albany. He is also the Chairman of the Board for the New York State Restaurant Association and a member of the Albany Convention Center Authority. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University. Rosenstein has received a number of accolades during his long and distinguished career in the hospitality industry, including the New York State Restaurant Association Excellence in Hospitality Award, New York State Restaurant Association Restaurateur of the Year Award, nominated for the IFMA Silver Plate Award, the 2007 Restaurants and Institutions Ivy Award, and was inducted into the Fine Dining Hall of Fame in 2005.
  • James A. Sidford P '19

    Secretary, Board of Trustees

    James A. Sidford is the President of Austin & Co. Inc., where he is responsible for the overall management and growth of the company. He has spent the past 20 years establishing and creating employee benefits and life insurance practices for both large New York-based and Albany insurance brokerages. Mr. Sidford has developed a particular expertise in the financial services industry and not-for-profit organizations, including private schools. Mr. Sidford received a Bachelor’s Degree from Hartwick College.
  • Kaari Stannard P'20, '23

    Kaari is the owner and president of New York Apple Sales, a marketer of New York State fresh apples. She is also a partner in Fish Creek Orchards, a large orchard operation in western New York. Kaari’s other ownership interest is in Fruit Forward, an intellectual property organization focusing on new, variety development of apples and pears. Kaari has been a very active parent at the Academies having served as a division rep, a class parent, and board member of the Albany Academies Parents Association.
     
    She received a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from the State University of New York at Buffalo. After graduating, she received her C.P.A license and worked in public accounting in Atlanta, GA. In 1996, Kaari joined New York Apple Sales and became President and Owner in 2000. Kaari currently holds positions on industry boards such as the US Apple Association and New York Apple Association. 
  • Ferdinand Venditti, Jr., MD P’03, ’14, ’15

     --erdinand “Fred” Venditti, Jr., MD P’03, ’14, ’15 is the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs at Albany Medical College. He holds the positions of Chairman of the Operating Committee and President of the Faculty Practice, and serves on various planning committees at the college. Fred has three children who graduated from The Albany Academies -- Robert ’03, Michaela ’14 and John ’15.

Our Mission

Who We Are: The Albany Academies—The Albany Academy and Albany Academy for Girls—develop capable and confident students through single-gender education in the Lower and Middle School, and through coordinate education in the Upper School.

What We Do: Employing individualized and positive education, The Albany Academies provide students with the knowledge, skills, and character needed for leadership and success in the creative, entrepreneurial century that lies ahead.
