Through the generosity of the Bender family, The Albany Academies are able to offer a free summer writing program for any Upper School student who needs to work on his / her writing skills.
The focus of this course is on academic, expository writing. The course is designed to help students improve all of the basic elements of their writing and is intended to be a workshop experience in which students work on particular skills and receive feedback every day from the teacher and their peers.
For 11th and 12th graders, the second week of the program will include some work on a college essay.
Most of the work is done in class; it is not intended to entail a lot of homework. There may be some occasional essay revisions done outside of class.
There will be two two-week sessions. The first session will run the weeks of June 19 and June 26. The second will run the weeks of July 31 and August 7. Students may sign up for only one of these sessions. A student may take just the first week of either session, but, since the course builds through the two weeks, students may not begin the course in the second week of the session. It is highly recommended that students take the entire two-week course.
Whether a student signs up for either one or two weeks, it is expected that he/she will attend every day and will not miss class for tournaments, vacations, driver’s ed, etc.
The class will run for 90 minutes each day.
9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. for rising ninth and tenth graders
11:00 a.m.-12:30 for rising eleventh and twelfth graders
Enrollment for each section is capped at 12 students.
If you are interested in enrolling your son or daughter, please contact Mr. Pascone at firstname.lastname@example.org.
