Academy 5 - 0 Cohoes

Summer hasn't quite quit on a hot afternoon when the Cadets were once again on the road at Cohoes, continuing an extended away streak before finally opening up at Academy Road on Thursday. The match belonged to Albany Academy, as their ball movement, skill, and most importantly - depth - carried the day. After several great scoring chances, it was sophomore Amos Stack who broke through on a wonderful helper from none other than Mike Malatino. The veteran core is really experimenting up front with newcomer Stack, and it is exciting to see what they will be capable of by the end of the season. Key pieces in the midfield like Haroon Pasha and Kyah Lah Hsee continuously create chances for a number of teammates, and their hard work will continue to pay dividends. Lah Hsee earned an assist on Stack's second goal not long after the first tally, and the score stood at 2-0 by halftime.

The stat line was dominated by junior Johner Soe in the second half. Soe struck quickly from almost 30 yards out and had another off consistent corner-taker Theo Haworth, two more core players who are asked to do a lot from the coaching staff. Sophomore pit-bull Danny Gazda tallied his second varsity goal from captain Rory McGuire to cap the scoring. What didn't show up on the score sheet was probably the Cadet's greatest strength - it's depth. Not only the essential defensive starters like Haworth, captain James Janeski, David Choma, and Jackson Kemp - but also Kasper Ostovar, Andy Schlosstein, and Charlie Brooks - giving the Cadets valuable, solid minutes every great team truly needs. The midfield and forward groups also have viable, smart options in Lucio Maruca, Emmet Surmeli, and Will Hayes. It will be this depth that very well may mean victory come playoff time.

All this and not yet one mention of goaltender Ami Drucker, who is quietly taking control of his own destiny and providing cool confidence for the rest of the team with each performance.
