Academy 2 - 1 Mohonasen

The Cadets were able to pull out a well-deserved 2 points during the second half of a back-to-back scheduling cluster. Mohonasen had a chance to steal this game, but Academy's skill and depth ultimately carried the day. Possession was about 75% Academy, and their slick ball movement was on full display. Johner Soe is looking to take command of the back line and entire games now. He won the game with only 56 seconds left on an absolute stunner from the right back position (assisted by none other than the worker bee Haroon Pasha). Academy's first goal was also scored from the right back position, except at that point being played by senior Andy Schlosstein and assisted by a core player returning nicely from injury - Charlie Xue. It's Andy's first career varsity goal and the boys were fired up. He made a nice stop defensively, drove the ball forward into a dangerous area, and got a fortuitous bounce off a Mohon defender. Despite dominating play, Mohon deserves a lot of credit for playing the game they're comfortable with - keeping defenders back to clear ball after ball from the middle and get lucky offensively. An absolute rocket on a direct kick from Mike De La Cruz allowed Mohon to tie the game in the second half. They even had an opportunity for a second goal when a Cadet's defender made a mistake at the PK spot, but GK1 Ami Drucker saved the day. Drucker was calm, cool and collected as he made a lot of tricky saves look easy with communication and good positioning. Mohon was able to muster some energy after tying the game, but the Cadet's depth and skill all over the field allowed them to eventually break through. It's going to be a huge strength moving forward, as a quick strike can come from almost anywhere and by almost anyone on the field.
