Academy 0 - 3 Ichabod

On a gloomy and chilly Saturday morning, Albany Academy made their way to Ichabod Crane for their first of 2 meetings. Ichabod came into the game with a 5-0 record and was looking to preserve their standing in the Colonial Council. Both teams came out at the opening whistle looking to take control and for the most part. A foul just outside the Academy 18 gave the perfect set piece for Riders #10 Brian Bravo, so curled a beauty into the far post upper 90 and gave Ichabod the early advantage. The Cadets immediately started to put the pressure on Ichabod and with great defense, Ichabod was able to withstand much of the threat despite Academy getting the better of the play. Academy's best chance in the first half came when Riders goalkeeper, Gustavo Ramos stepped outside the penalty area on a punt and the official called for a direct kick. Looking to redeem himself, Ramos placed his wall and the absolute blast from Academy's Kyah Lah Hsee was tipped perfectly and went off the post and out of play. The Riders took the 1-0 advantage into halftime. The 2nd half was very similar to the first with both teams battling for possession. Ichabod would register their 2nd goal on a loose ball in the 6 yard box that was gathered by Henry Loyola who put the ball just out of reach of Cadet keeper Ami Drucker. Academy created several chances, including a breakaway attempt by Amos Stack who went 1V1 with the Ichabod keeper. Ramos came out and forced Stack to take an awkward shot, sending his shot high and to the left. Academy had their dangerous chances, but couldn't convert on any of them. There were several set pieces created by the Cadets towards the end of the game just outside the box. With just a couple minutes left to play, one of these chances was broken up by Wyatt Dolge and found the awaiting foot of Brandon DaCosta. DaCosta gathered, turned and sped up the field, beating his defender and sending his shot hurtling towards the far post. The ball hit the post hard and deflected into the back netting. While an impressive goal, it was just icing on the cake as Academy had sent everyone into the box in a desperate attempt to get into the game. It meant nothing, but it gave the Riders a 3-0 lead and that is how the game would end. This was an absolute GREAT game by both sides, and the rematch should be even more fun to watch!
